A visualization is a visual representation of the data in a Visual Insight analysis, such as a grid or graph. You can add visualizations to an analysis, to provide multiple ways for a user to display and interact with the data from the analysis's dataset. Each visualization is displayed on a separate tab in the analysis. You can click the tab of a visualization to display it. Steps are below to add, duplicate, or delete a visualization, or to change the type of visualization that is used to display data.
You can add the following visualizations to an analysis:
Grid visualization: You can display data in an interactive grid, allowing users to pivot, sort, move, drill, filter, and perform additional manipulations on data displayed in the grid.
Graph visualization: You can display the data in a graphical format and choose between a variety of different graphs, such as an area graph, line graph, or pie chart.
Graph Matrix visualization: You can display the data in a chart containing one graph for every combination of the data you specify, allowing users to examine the data for each combination individually.
Heat Map visualization: You can display the data as a combination of colored rectangles. Each rectangle represents an attribute element, and is colored and sized according to the value of metrics in the visualization, allowing users to quickly grasp the state and impact of a large number of variables at one time.
Google Map visualization: You can display the data as geographical locations on a map, then change the color, size, and display of markers based on the value of a metric, to allow users to quickly grasp relationships between different locations.
This procedure assumes that you have already created the analysis that you want modify.
You must have the Web Visual Insight and Execute Document or Analysis privileges.
Click the name of the analysis to run it.
Click the Add
Visualization icon , then select the visualization you want to
add, as follows:
To add a Grid visualization, select Grid.
To add a Graph Matrix visualization, select Graph Matrix.
To add a Heat Map visualization, select Heat Map.
To add a Google Map visualization, select Google Map.
To add a Graph visualization, select the type of graph you want to use to display data. The options are:
Bubble
Combination
Horizontal Area
Horizontal Bar
Horizontal Line
Vertical Area
Vertical Bar
Vertical Line
Pie
Scatter
To add data to the visualization,
from the Dataset Objects panel,
click and drag them to the Drop Zones
panel, as follows:
Note: If the Dataset Objects panel is not displayed, click the
Dataset Objects icon in the analysis
toolbar. The following areas in the Drop Zones panel are displayed when
adding report objects to a Grid visualization; however, different areas
may be displayed depending on the type of visualization you are adding
to the analysis. For steps to add attributes and metrics to a specific
type of visualization, see the appropriate topic for the type of visualization
you want to add.
To add an attribute to the rows, drag the attribute to the Rows area.
To add an attribute to the columns, drag the attribute to the Columns area.
To add a metric to the analysis, drag the metric to the Metric area.
The table below contains a list of common tasks to manage the visualization tabs in an analysis, such as renaming tabs or creating copies of an existing visualization, and steps to perform them.
